Description of the flag

The flag of UNCo is light blue with the university's emblem in the middle.

The emblem of UNCo was designed by Julio Bariani, a visual communication designer. Based on traditional elements of the Mapuche culture, it is aimed at reviving and revamping the cultural symbols of the Comahue region. The design originates in an image found on a cultrum (Mapuche traditional drum), representing the mythical division of the Mapuche space. It incorporates sketchy representations of humans, as found in several Mapuche handicrafts and rock paintings. The elements were harmonized to obtain a circular image conveying the required visual impression. The circle, surrounding the emblem, is made of linear figures forming a play of humans coming in and out. The structure of the individuals corresponds to a generalization of human representations. The arms in open position increase the feeling of unity and communication. To summarize, the emblem is expected to mean:

    a) regional integration;

    b) the man as the object and the aim of the university's activity.
