Name of municipality: Salzburg
Status: Stadt mit eigenem Statut (city with own statute)
Land (state): Salzburg
Bezirk (district): Salzburg-Stadt

Blazoning of arms (English): Gules, a city wall embattled, in its central part a gate with opened gate wings and pulled-up portcullis, under a little turret with two windows; the side parts receding perspectively containing one embrasure each. Behind the city wall three multi-storey towers with peaked roofs Or, the higher central one being octagonal and showing the viewer three walls, each wall showing from top a gabled roof, a gabled window, a simple window and in the lower floor two windows. The lateral round towers each show two windows in the upper floor, and one in the lower floor. All masonry Argent.
Adoption date of arms: 14 November 1931 (based on the historical seals, first appearing in 1249)

Description of flag: two stripes, white-red, with or without coat-of-arms [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]
Legal basis: The arms and the colours are defined in the city statute; I  only have the 1966 statute, that states in § 3.1 "Die Farben der Stadt sind weiß-rot." (The colours of the city are white-red.). The arms are described in § 3.2. I do not know if earlier versions of the statute already contained the paragraph on arms and colours.
