The symbols of Zenica are described in Article 8 of the Municipal Statutes Statut Općine Zenica (text), adopted on 22 May 2008 by the Municipal Assembly and published in the Municipal official gazette Službene novine Općine Zenica, although they were adopted earlier.

The flag of Zenica (municipal website) is prescribed as a vertical (only) white flag, in proportions 2:1, with the coat of arms in the middle. The width of the coat of arms is prescribed as 2/3 of the flag's hoist.

The coat of arms is described in the document Grb grada Zenice (Coat of arms of the town of Zenica), undated, coauthored by Mensur Serdarević and Mile Srdanović (text). The municipal website credits the design only to Mensur Serdarević (personal website), who claims to have designed the arms in 1993.

The coat of arms pictures river Bosna flowing along the right edge of the shield and curving along it. Two lines crossing it in base symbolize communication. There are four elements in circular medallions. The first medallion pictures old fort Vranduk, the seat of the Bosnian kings and of the house of did, a patriarch of Bosnian Patareni Bogomil religion known as bogumili. The second medallion pictures a cross, one as it is found on a monument of Kulin-ban, also symbolizing Christianity. The third medallion in clockwise order shows a crescent, symbolizing Islam and Turkish period, and the fourth medallion contains two crossed hammers, symbolizing mining industry as well as, indirectly, the Austrian-Hungarian period.

The colours are prescribed as:
- Yellow: RGB: 255-255-0; CMYK (%): 0-0-100-0 (Yellow);
- Green: RGB: 153-255-0; CMYK (%): 40-0-100-0 (Chartreuse).
The white parts of the coat of arms may be depicted in silver or in gray 10%K. The crescent may be depicted in yellow (as in the drawings), or green (probably intended for smaller depictions).

Former coat of arms of Zenica

Prior to the 1990s, Zenica used a different coat of arms, adopted possibly some time in the 1980s. The coat of arms is red with a white base, overall a golden bridge, outlined in black, from which is issuing an ironworks factory also golden, outlined in black, and a red five-pointed star, outlined in red. In the base there is a wavy golden line interrupted in the centre with two hammers crossed in saltire.
The iron industry was the base of the Socialist development of Zenica, almost iconographic in Yugoslavia.
