Kozarska Dubica was named Bosanska Dubica before the 1990s. Republika Srpska uses the former name only, while the State authorities use both names. Kozarska Dubica is located on the opposite bank of Sava river from the town of Hrvatska Dubica (Croatia). The name of the town originates from dub, the archaic word for "an oak".

The coat of arms of Kozarska Dubica is prescribed by Articlre 1 of Statutory Decision Statutarna odluka o utvrđivanju oblika, sadržaja i upotrebe simbola Opštine Kozarska Dubica, adopted on 21 December 2006 by the Municipal Council and published in the Municipal official gazette Službeni glasnik Opštine Kozarska Dubica.
Even if the name of the municipality is prescribed to be inscribed above the shield, this is apparently often omitted - even in the illustration attached to the Decision. When the inscription appears, it is on two rows repeating the name in Cyrillic over Latin script.
There is no flag either prescribed or reported.
