A star was added to the national coat of arms
in 1961 to represent the department of Pando (created in 1938).
Mark Sensen, 09 Mar 2002 and 11 Mar 2002
The department of Pando is the northernmost department of Bolivia.
Area 63 827 km2; population (1997), 53 124, making
of it the least populated of the Bolivian departments.
Ivan Sache, 10 Mar 2002
According to a plate I received some years ago,
the current Pando department flag is the flag used
by the Bolivian Amazonia Volunteers in the Chaco War
(the volunteers were named Columna del Porvenir).
Today white is for peace, generosity and integrity;
the green is for vegetation and the hope for the XXI
century. Sources: [m2nXX]
and [ban]
Jaume Ollé, 02 Nov 1996 and 02 Sep 2001
On 17 Feb 2001, Jan-Patrick Fischer reported after in loco
observation that the Pando Department used by La Paz authorities is rather
white over green bicolor, not green over
white bicolor reported as obsolete, nor the white - green
- white tricolor some reported.
António Martins, 02 Sep 2001
Several sources reported white over green. These include a plate posted
to me from Bolivia, and Banderas [ban],
and even several personal communications. Information in Vexillologie
94 [vex] about the triband
was dated later and then I believed that can be accurate.
Jaume Ollé, 02 Sep 2001
The flag was originally horizontal, green over white;
probably in 1989, another white stripe
was added (white, green and white).
Jan Zrzavy, 01 Sep 1999
Several sources reported white over green. But
Vexilologie 94 [vex]
(article based on [b9o90] —
ed.) show a bit different flag of three horizontal stripes
white, green and white.
Jaume Ollé, 22 Aug 1999
Information in Vexillologie 94
[vex] was dated later than the reports about
white over green and then I believed that can be accurate.
But after Jan Patrick’s observations
(generally attested by photos) I believe now that white over green must be
correct and that the triband flag was only a mistake

white; probably in 1989, another white stripe was added (white,
green and white).
