The municipality of Passira (28,589 inhabitants in 2010; 330 sq. km) is
located in eastern Pernambuco, 80 km of Recife. The municipality is made of
the town of Passira proper and of the district of Bengalas. The municipality
of Passira was established by State Law No. 4,981 of 20 December 1963,
seceding from Limoeiro.
White
and blue are the municipal colors. The coat of arms is surrounded by plants of
maize (dexter) and cotton (sinister), represent the most important crops at
the time of the creation of the flag (cotton is no longer so significant).
The mountain is the highest point of the municipality and a tourist's
hotspot. The piece of embroidery represents the strong local culture. The
scroll below the shield is inscribed with the date of political emancipation,
"20/12/1963".
