About the Flag of Curitiba

The flag of Curitiba is 9:13. As with other municipal flags of this Union Jack-style design, the coat of arms is said to represent the municipal government, the rectangle the city as seat of the municipality, the red and white stripes municipal authority radiating from the city into the countryside, and the green field the rural areas of the municipality. The coat of arms approved by Law No. 2993 of 11 May 1967, is described as "gules a pine tree argent," but it is represented with only the trunk silver, the foliage being green. The supporters are branches of wheat and grapes proper. The scroll is inscribed "29 de março--Curitiba--de 1693," 29 March 1693 being the date of the town's founding.
