Article 2 - The coat of arms shall have the following form: Portuguese shield; Gold, on the geographic outline of the municipality in blue a depiction of the refinery of Duque de Caxias in silver standing on a green field; the main charge flanked by two red stars to the right and left; a chief gules (red) showing a gold ducal crown with its precious stones. In base, a silver scroll with the following inscription: "1566 - Duque de Caxias - 1943. The whole ensigned by a silver ducal [actually, mural--ed.] crown of five towers representative of the city.

Article 3 - The flag will be composed of two blue stripes on a white ground, crossing diagonally, having on the center the coat of arms of the municipality, recording its traditions and historical origins and development, the present and future of the municipality, in a serene struggle [!] for industrialization.

Article 4 - The production of the flag of the Municipality of Duque de Caxias will meet the following provisions:

    I - To calculate the dimensions, take 14 units as the hoist and 20 units as the fly.
    II - The transverse blue stripes will be 2.5 units wide.
    III - The coat of arms of the municipality will be in the center on the blue stripes, 2 units into the upper part and 3 units into the lower part.
    IV - The scroll will be 0.8 units wide and the letters 0.5 units high.
