At

we can read: "The municipal flag of Criciuma was created by the heraldist Arcinóe
Peixoto de Faria, whose style obeys the tradition of Portuguese heraldry…. The coat of arms at the center
symbolizes the municipal power. The rectangle on which it is placed represents the city itself--home of the
municipality. The stripes symbolize the municipal power that expands toward all parts of
the territory and the quarters thus formed represent the rural areas
that exist in the territory of the municipality."
Jorge Candeias, 7 February 1998
