The flag was designed by Manoel Pereira de Goddy and adopted by law no.
1068/71 of 1 July 1971. It is defined as measuring 94 cm hoist by 148 cm
fly, with three horizontal stripes, red (30 cm), white (34 cm), and black
(30 cm). On the center is a fish known as a curimbatá (Prochilodus scrofa)
measuring 27 cm long by 20 cm high altogether, from the point of the dorsal
fin to the point of the ventral fin. The curimbatá is light gray with the
eye in a white circle. To the hoist side is a stalk of sugar cane 30 cm
long by 3 cm wide. The lower extremity of the cane is 50 cm from the hoist
of the flag and the upper extremity 34 cm. The stem is dark red and the
leaves light green. A branch of coffee appears in the fly, 30 cm long by 1
cm wide; the extremities of the branch are the same distance from the fly as
those of the cane are from the hoist. The cane and the coffee are 15 cm
from the nose and from the fork of the caudal fin of the fish respectively.
The colors of the coffee are light brown branch, dark green leaves, and
cherry-red fruits.
