Rosana was founded by the "Camargo Correia" company, at the end of the Dourado branch of the Sorocabana railway, close to the confluence of rivers Paranapanema and Paraná. Named for one of the daughters of Sebastião Camargo, the new town belonged to the municipality of Presidente Epitácio. The district of Rosana was established by Law No. 8,050 of 31 December 1963. The municipality of Rosana was established by State Law No. 6,645 of 9 January 1990; following a plebiscite organized on 5 November 1989, and inaugurated on 1 January 1993.

The symbols of Rosana are prescribed in Article 2 of the Municipal Constitution, adopted on 26 May 1993, as "the flag, the coat of arms, the anthem and the motto 'NOSSA RIQUEZA é A NOSSA GENTE', representative of its culture and history. The municipal colours are prescribed as star white, King blue, "caiçara" blue and leaf green. These prescriptions are amendments adopted on 29 March 2006.

It also represents the exuberance of the primary forest. The disk is a symbol of eternity, being a geometric figure without either a beginning or a end. White is a symbol of peace and harmony. The whole represents the aspiration to preserve forever the municipal autonomy, obtained after harsh struggle, and to always keep the benefit of harmony and peace.
The flag of Rosana, designed by Lauro Ribeiro Escobar, is "An Iberian shield, or a pall wavy azure charged with three thunderbolts of the first cantonned by three heraldic roses gules.
