Description of the flag

Unequal triband of dark blue, white and dark blue charged on the white area with a local badge. This badge is coat-of-arms-like and can be blazoned as "pentagonal shield azure semy of waves argent the contour of Banks Island of the same charged with an 'N' sable radiant of four of the same on the location of Sachs Harbour, in chief a sailing ship between two belugas respectant all of the first; as crown a setting sun featureless radiant of tree or on a background sable; as supporters a musk ox and an arctic fox; motto "Banks Island" in white letters on a blue scroll, cri de guerre "Sachs Harbour" on an identical scroll; "compartment" showing a dog sleigh sable."

Sachs Harbour (also called Ikaahuk, meaning "where you go across to"), with a population of 135 (as of 1996), is located at 71°59'N lat. and 125°14'W long., on the southern shore of Banks Island. Local languages are Inuvialuktun and English, and the community belongs to the electoral district of Nunakput and to land claim area of Inuvialuit.
