Description of the flag

The flag of the City of Belleville, Ontario, is described in By-Law no. 11246, Section 9: "The flag for the Corporation of the City of Belleville shall be a flag on a field of gold and red to match the Shield of the Armorial Bearings and containing the said Shield in the center thereof. The flag may be flown on all civic buildings, including school buildings. The Mayor only shall have the right to fly the flag on a vehicle". There is also Mayoral Banner described in Section 10: "There may be a banner to be used by the Mayor at official functions which shall contain the Shield of the Armorial Bearings of the City of Belleville. The size of the banner shall be appropriate to the occasion on which it is used". By-Law passed and effective 17.01.1983.

Coat of arms: "Gules a Chevron barry wavy Argent and Azure between three Bells Or on a Chief of the last a Book closed bound Azure edged Gold between two Grant Trunk Locomotive Engines tempore 1877 affronty upon rails with sleepers proper And for the Crest Within a Mural Crown of Stone environed by a circlet of Maple Leaves in their Fall tints a demi Beaver proper and a demi Lion Or supporting between them a Staff Azure ensigned by a Maple Leaf Gold and flying therefrom a swallow-tailed Pennon of St. George, Mantled Gules doubled Or" Granted 08.01.1982.
