In 1988, during the Fête du Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the colonization of the region and the 50th anniversary of the flag, the municipalities of the region gave an official status to the flag by adopting it as flag of Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean.
The name of the holiday and of the anthem (composed by the Rev. Father Laurent Tremblay) were also changed on the same day from Fête du Saguenay and Hymne au Saguenay to Fête du Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean and Hymne du Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean.
As has been pointed out before, the kingdom or "royaume"
denomination is a local nickname that finds its roots in old legends and has
nothing official about it.
