The municipality of Saint-Tite-des-Caps (1,562 inhabitants in 2007; 13,001
ha) is located in the MRC (~County) La Côte-de-Beaupré, Region of
Capitale-Nationale. The place was settled in 1562 and the municipality was
incorporated on 24 December 1872.
The municipality is named after St.
Titus (in French, Tite), a companion of St. Paul, mostly known by the
"Epistle to Titus", one of the three so-called pastoral epistles included in
the "Corpus Paulinum".
Marc Cochrane reports in "L'Autre Voix", 1
June 2009, the unveiling of the flag of Saint-Tite-des-Caps during a
ceremony held on 31 May 2009. Pierre Dion, elected Mayor in 2005, was upset
by the absence of a municipal flag. Refusing to adopt a flag reflecting the
municipal arms, he commissioned Marie-José Houde, from the "Image
Communication Marketing" local company to design a flag "with a modern
look".
The flag is white, in proportions 1:2, with the local
landscape represented in the upper left part, surmounted by a red scroll
charged with "MUNICIPALITE" in white letters. The name of the municipality
appears on two lines in the lower right quarter of the flag, "SAINT-TITE",
in green, white-shadowed capital letters / "des Caps", in red,
white-shadowed cursive, smaller letters. The Mayor said that the landscape
represents four main elements of the municipality, its religious heritage,
agriculture, the Capes' Trail and Lake Saint-Tite. The designer said she was
inspired by a watercolor exhibited in the local Leisure Center; then she
took photos of the scene and designed the flag.
The municipality has
ordered 18 copies of the flag to cope with the detrimental effect of weather
on the flags used outdoors.

The Capes' Trail ("Sentier des Caps de Charlevoix" was
created by the municipality of Saint-Tite in 1992-1993. Several hiking
trails are available in summer, while cross-country and alpine ski as well
as snowshoe trekking can be practiced in winter.
