Escuela Normal Superior de Quibdó (Chocó Department) was established by Act
No. 95 of 20 October 1936. Classes had started on 6 June 1936 in a small house
offered by Colegio Carrasquilla, contiguous to the cathedral. The today's
building of the institute was erected in 1942.
The flag of the institute is horizontally divided yellow-green. Yellow is a
symbol of intellectual resources. Green is a symbol of aspiration to the
harmonious development of the human being, of mankind, and of the natural
environment.
According to the ex-teacher Hector Moya Guerrero, the original flag of the
institute was yellow-sky blue.
