The flag is dark blue with white narrow gyronny-like rays extending
from the center to all four corners, themselves containg even narrower
yellow rays. Overall a white large disc with thin dark blue edging and in
it the emblem.

The municipal flag Tarrafal de São Nicolau mun. does not follow
the pattern of other, previously reported caboverdean
municipal flags. It does have a central logo, which
does match the loose scheme of others
known so far, but it is set on a background that is neither monocolored
nor quartered of two colors. (The exact depiction of this
flag design at
the official website is slightly assymetric towards the hoist.)

This flag and emblem were apparently adoped upon public competition held
in early 2014 — see competition announcement and rules
online.

The emblem is pseudo-heraldic in style showing on a pointy, lyre-shaped
shield a marlin leaping above water against a sunset backdrop and a craggy
landscape with a wooden boat and what seems to be an achor arm; on what
can be seen as either a heraldic chief (matching the corners of the
shield, vaguely Italian-styled),
or a sort of superimposed scroll, dark blue, the lettering "M.T.S.N.",
standing for Município do Tarrafal de São Nicolau, in bold red
serifless capitals. Above the shield, in the crest position, a drum with
its sticks crossed on it, and all around the upper part of the logo the
usual arc of 10 yellow stars, in two
symmetric sectors separated at the apex by a chain
of four red (not green!) links, placed above the drum. Enclircling the
bottom part of the logo, a yellow scroll with forked ends and two bends,
reading (again) "MUNICÍPIO DO TARRAFAL DE SÃO NICOLAU", in
black serifless capitals. (See
depiction
at the official website.)

Tarrafal de São Nicolau is one of the two municipalities on the
island of São Nicolau / Saninklau
(= St. Nicholas), in Cabo Verde, taking the western, smaller side of
its mountain crest divide. It was created in 2005, by dettaching one
commune from the Ribeira Brava mun., São
Francisco de Assis. Tarrafal de São Nicolau mun. consists of that one
commune; area is 120 km² and in 2010 there lived 5205 people.
António Martins, 25 Apr 2016
Not to be confused with Tarrafal in
Santiago isl.; tarrafal is a place where
throwing fishnets (tarrafas) are woven or stored.
António Martins, 25 Apr 2016
There is also another Tarrafal, a village in Santo Antão island; it
is seat of neither municipality nor commune and probably has no flag.
