The flags of Central Bohemian, South Bohemian (and Zlin) Regions are
finally approved by all relevant councils, assemblies and committees. At
present, they will only be officially *granted* by the chairman of the
House of Representatives.

And some symbolics: the eagle stands for Moravia, the star for the city
of Zlin. The book with the patriarchal cross represents the early medieval
(9th century) kingdom of Great Moravia as a source of Christian literacy
and education. The complicated emblem in the 3rd field mirrors that the
Zlin Region is formed by (parts of) three traditional regions: Wallachia
(the mountainous eastern part - the axes), part of Moravian Slovakia (southern
part - the grapes - the rest of MS is in South Moravian Region),
and Hana (western part - the plough - the rest is in Olomouc Region).

Petr Exner's 'Czech Vexillological
Pages' has the new version of symbols of Zlin Region.
Jan Zrzavy, 2 Oct 2001
According to Petr Exner, four regional COAs (and BOAs) were discussed
and supported by the parliamentary heraldical-vexillological subcommitee. They
are Karlovy Vary, Pardubice, Zlin, and Olomouc Regions. At present, it
is not clear whether regional symbols will be approved all at once or step-by-step.
that of the Zlin Region is available at this
page.

Description of the first four flags of the regions of the Czech Republic
that have bee approved by the parliamentary
heraldical-vexillological subcommittee. Note that they are still proposals
(as they have not yet been officially declared by the chairman of the House
of Representatives) and that some details are not clear (some regions sent
to the subcommittee only the proposed coats of arms and their 'translation' to the
armorial banners is not always unequivocal).
Zlin Region (Zlinsky kraj): The flag is quartered. The upper hoist
field is blue with a red-white checkered eagle with yellow crown, beak,
and legs. The upper fly field is yellow with a blue book with white edges
and with a yellow patriarch ("double") cross on the book cover. The lower
hoist field is yellow with two crossed blue "Wallachian" axes (with black
shafts) covered by
horizontal blue plough share, and with a blue bunch of grapes above
the axes. The lower fly field is blue with a yellow eight-pointed star.
Ratio 2:3.
Jan Zrzavy, 6 Jun 2001
The proposal of the symbols of the Zlin Region ("Zlinsky kraj") has
not yet been accepted by the assembly (15th June; the
decision has been postponed to 12th September). The main objectives
concern the cross ("too Slovakia-like") and the plough knife ("too uncertain
what it does mean"). In other words, the problems are artistic rather than
factual.

Yesterday, 12 Sep 2001, the regional coat of arms and banner of arms were approved by the
regional assembly. So far I have no image but the description suggests
that the original proposal reported earlier was a little modified.
Both symbols are quartered:
This is the latest version of Zlínský kraj Coat of arms, approved by
"Krajské zastupitelstvo" (Regional representation) last week as showed
on "iDnes", the internet version of newspaper Dnes ("Today") from 13th
of September 13, 2001. The proposed grant by Chairman Václav Klaus during
this autumn. The differences: size of the cross, shape of axes blades and
of the ploughshare.
