Praha 3 flag

Prague Borough Praha 3 finally seems to have approved symbols. On this site you will see that Coat of Arms is very simillar to the rejected proposal - only these three shields are different: instead the St. Wenceslas Eagle there is a Luxembourg Lion (for Emperor Charles IV from Žižkov Arms), a Bohemian Lion (for St. Wenceslas from Vinohrady Arms) and golden chalice on red (for Jan Žižka from the Žižkov Arms). As for Flag - it has 5 horizontal stripes R-W-GR-W-R (1,1,2,1,1). The article is stating, that Chamber of Deputies Chairman Lubomír Zaorálek gave the Decree to the Mayor of Praha 3 (but we don't know when it was...).

How does this reflects on the Praha coat of arms? If I am not much mistaken the coat of arms of the city (or the capital region) has lesser variants withotu flags, but the greater variant is adorned with the flags in the crest. Has it been changed also, or would it need a special decision of the city administration in this regards, or the change is "automatic".

Anything can happen in Prague - including nothing! In fact two flags on the greater Praha arms represent Praha 3 already: Královské Vinohrady (Königliche Weinberge) and Žižkov (Zischkow/Veitsberg). The first Greater coat of arms was introduced in 1926 (approved in 1927), and contained 18 banners. Those banners were in fact used only on that coat of arms. Six more banners were added to the crest in 1991, when the Prague arms were novelised for the last time. If the coat of arms were to be changed it is probably with the addition of 6 or nx6 banners. However the administrative division of Prague is "senseless" according to Pavel Fojtik. There are 56 municipal units, 112 cadastral units, as well as 15 units named Praha 1 to 15; The areas covered by those units do not overlap, and neither do probably the sewage districts or whatever they got more.

Petr Exner promised to devote a special issue of his famous VexLex series to Prague district flags, and hopefully we will learn more about this rather confusing business.

At this website are proposals for flag and coat of arms of Praha3, consisting of Zizkov and Vinohrady. Flag and coat of arms are based on those two wards; the last page mentions a page with three flag proposals and one crude coat of arms, which now seem to be finalized.
