Description of flag:
The flags ratio is 3:5. It is a green over yellow horizontal bicolour with the coat of arms in its centre.
Description of coat of arms:
In a green shield is a broad golden (=yellow) wavy pale with a black armoured blue rampant swan. On the dexter side is a golden (=yellow) distaff, on the sinister side a golden (=yellow) ear of grain.
Meaning:
The green colour is symbolizing the cities name, which means "green mead". The swan, usually red, is taken from the coat of arms of the counts of Steinfurt. The other parts are taken from the coat of arms of the former municipality of Epe symbolizing agriculture and textiles industry.
Authorized: 8 October 1981 by Regierungspräsident Münster
