Unterfranken district

Unterfranken (Lower Franconia) lies in the northwest of Bavaria, the area around Würzburg.
Stefan Schwoon, 8 Oct 2001

The coat-of-arms of Unterfranken (since 9th November 1961) combines the Franconian rake with the symbols for Würzburg (standard) and Mainz (wheel). The unofficial flag is horizontally divided red-white with the arms in the center.

The flag is a red over white bicolour with arms in centre.
Source: I spotted this flag just north of Maspalomas, Gran Canaria Island, Spain on 22 September 2011.

More recently I obtained information from the Bezirk to clarify the question of how the flag actually looks like, especially if it is used as a normal horizontal flag or as a hanging flag (Banner). The flag is used as hanging flag (proportion 5:2). My image is based on a photo of an actual flag.
Source: Letter from the Bezirk Unterfranken and a photo of the actual flag.
