Coat of arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a blue shield is a silver (= white) city wall masoned black topped by three towers of the same kind. The towers have red cone shaped roofs. In the open black gate is an inescutcheon showing a blue, rampant lion in a golden (=yellow) field and surrounded by red hearts. The shield is placed bendily.
Meaning:
According to source the inescutcheon shows the arms of the Welfen family. The wall with towers probably is symbolizing city rights. The ensemble is known from seals since 1310 and especially from a stone carved version at the local townhall from 1603. The hearts have been taken from the Danish coat of arms. They were added in the 18th century.
