Banner

Description of banner:
It is a black - yellow vertical bicolour. The coat of arms is in the centre of the banner.
Source: §2(3) of Hauptsatzung of the city of Linnich, version 12 October 2001, updated 24 June 2010
The description within source is a bit confusing, but information was reconfirmed by the city.

Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess. Above in a golden (= yellow) field is a black, rampant lion tongued red. The field below is chequered into red and golden (= yellow) /three rows.
Meaning:
According to source the lion is alluding to the dukes of Jülich, rulers since 1392. The chequered field is a simplification of the arms of the barons of Randerath, who ruled the place before. Their arms had 25 squares.

The coat of arms ( and probably also a banner) was confirmed in 1972 by Regierungspräsident Köln.
