Description of flag:
The flags ratio is 3:5. It is a blue over yellow horizontal bicolour.
Description of banner:
It is a blue flag with horizontal yellow stripes at the left and right edge. The ratio between the stripes is 1:3:1. Within the blue stripe is the coat of arms shifted to the top.
Description of coat of arms:
In a golden (=yellow) field is the Markian chequered bar (version 3 times 7 squares). The chief and the base are divided by a blue fess wavy each.
Meaning:
The shield is taken from the counts of Mark. The wavy lines are symbolizing the rivers Ruhr and Ennepe, which gave the county its name.
Approved: 25.March 1954 having a flag in principle, pattern according to Hauptsatzung Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis (§2), 26 June 2000.
