Altenriet Municipal Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a golden (= yellow) shield is a black, rampant dog with floppy ears. He is tongued red. The shield has a light blue chief superimposed by two golden (= yellow) pretzels.
Meaning:
The dog is taken from the arms of the Lords of Riet, who had their estate in the village. Pretzels are a type of hard pastry. They are alluding to the famous local pretzel-market, which has a long tradition in the village.
