Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess. Above in a golden (= yellow) field is a black, statant lion, armed and tongued red. The field is divided by a fessy, red label with five flaps. Below in a blue field are silver (= white) hammer and mallet.
Meaning:
According to source the tools are symbolizing mining while the lion is taken from the arms of the Lords of Blankenheim.

The coat of arms was confirmed by Regierungspräsident Köln on 9 February 1973.
