Description of coat of arms:
In a green field scattered with nine golden (= yellow) fleur de lis is a silver (= white), double-queued, rampant lion, crownde golden and tongued red. Stadler depicts the lion in a blue field also armed red. (version until 1972 ?)
Meaning:
According to source the whole ensemble is known from seals since the 13th century. They show the arms of the Counts of Schleiden, the founders of the city.

Banner and coat of arms were approved by Regierungspräsident Köln on 19 August 1976.
