It is a blue - white vertical bicolour. The coat of arms is shifted to the top.

Bretten Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided lozengy of silver (= white) and blue.
Meaning:
Bretten gained city rights in the middle of the 13th century from the Count of Zweibrücken, who had married a daughter of the Eberstein kin. The city was a possession of the Counts of Eberstein and the seals until 1349 thus show the arms of the Counts of Eberstein, a rose. In 1359 the city became a possession of the Palatine Counts of Rhine and the seals since then displayed the arms of the Wittelsbach kin. All later seals images show the same arms, but, contrary to the family arms, with the rhombs placed lozengy proper (Bavarian arms display the rhombs barry bendy).
