Besigheim Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a red shield stands a silver (= white) castle on top of a green mountain on the base. The castle has and embattled wall flanked by two embattled towers with black windows and a red, open gate.
Meaning:
The settlement was first called a city in 1280, located between two castles of the Margraves of Baden. It became a part of Württemberg from 1504 until 1525, finally in 1595. The earliest seal from 1452 displayed the castle with an inescutcheon upon the gate, displaying the bend of Baden. The inescutcheon was replaced by an antler of Württemberg in 1595. The antler was omitted since 1694. The earliest tinctures, given in the Forstatlas of 1596 displayed a silver mountain. The current colours were fixed in 1962 by the city. Since then the arms again were slightly modified (number of pinnacles and windows).

The current banner and coat of arms were adopted in 1962 by the city council.
