Description of flag:
The ratio is 3:5. It is a blue over yellow horizontal bicolour. The coat of arms is in the centre of the flag.

Doubtful Flag with off-centred Coat of Arms

Description of flag:
It is a blue over yellow horizontal bicolour with the city's coat of arms shifted to the hoist.
I spotted some triangular and a bigger trapezium pennant, its fly end had half height of its hoist end. The owner assured me that the townhall would use a rectangular flag with the same pattern. And as they have four flagpoles, they have a municipality flag. As I haven’t seen the flag, I cannot guarantee, that the CoA of flag is also shifted to the hoist. I was told, you could buy the flags at Lohmanns grocery. But on a Wednesday afternoon in a tiny German city you can’t buy anything. And before I failed in contacting the local administration.

Coat of Arms


Description of coat of arms:
In a blue field is a blue rampant lion, red armed and red tongued. Above the lion is a red mural crown.
Meaning:
Bleckede was founded and granted the title of a city in 1209 by a son of Heinrich the Lion from Welfen kin, duke of Saxony and Bavaria. The blue lion is that one of the Welfen dynasty (the same as in the coats of arms of the counties of Harburg, Uelzen and Lüneburg). The mural crown is symbolizing the city rights.
According to Stadler 1970, p.25 the lion and the colours as well are symbolizing Welfen kin, especially the branch of the dukes of Lüneburg. The mural crown is following Prussian tradition to express city rights, which had been gained by the city in 1310 and which were regained in 1929. It is however remarkable, that the city celebrated its 800-years-city-rights anniversary in 2009, which means the rights had been gained in 1209.
