Unterföhring Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The golden (= yellow) shield is divided by a blue fess wavy. Above left is a moor's head crowned red on a red basement. Below right on the edge are eight red bricks ordered like stairs 1:1:2:2:2.
Meaning:
The fess wavy is representing the river Isar and the bridge of Föhring, in the Middle Ages an important crossing over the river. The moor'ss head is taken from the arms of the Bishopric of Freising and is alluding to the fact that Unterföhring belonged to the County of Ismaning, which was governed by the bishops under direct imperial rule until 1803. The bricks are reminding on the numerous brickyards in the village, which supplied nearby München with building materials. The last brickyard closed in 1968.

Flag and coat of arms were approved by Bavarian ministry of interior on 30 January 1957.

The fact that the arms is shown in a white banner-head and not directly on the stripes, is a good hint that this flag (at least the original version) is from the 1950ies, when this arrangement was the usual one (easier to produce, I guess).
