Description

Vertically divided red-white-red in proportions 1:2:1. The charges of the coat of arms are displayed in the white stripe. The vertical format of 1:2:1 seems to be quite common in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania civic flags. Sources: flag from Staack 1997 and Günther 1998a, arms from Bensing et al, Lexikon Städte und Wappen der DDR, Leipzig, 1984.

Stefan Schwoon, 13 February 2001

The coat of arms was adopted by the local council on 11 May 1966. Flag and coat of arms were approved by minister of interior of Mecklenburg-Westpomerania on 22 April 1991, published in the roll of arms of Mecklenburg-Westpomerania as no. 0040. The coat of arms was redesigned in 1994.
