The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a blue over red over yellow horizontal tricolour. The coat of arms is in the centre of the flag.

Description of coat of arms:
In a golden (=yellow) field upon a green hill is a red castle consisting of a wall masoned black and two embattled towers with triangular roofs. The ensemble is flanked by blue waves. Above the scene is a black demi-bull crowned golden (= yellow), armed silver (= white) and topped by a blue helmet crested by two circles of peacock feathers in natural colour.
Meaning:
The coat of arms is based upon a seal from 1377 and the current form had been approved first time in April 1858

Flag and coat of arms were approved by minister of interior of Mecklenburg-Westpomerania on 27 September 1993, published in the roll of arms of Mecklenburg-Westpomerania as no. 0044.
