Introduction: City of Grevesmühlen

Here is the flag of the city of Grevesmühlen . Grevesmühlen was the administration seat of Nordwestmecklenburg County until 3 September 2011. We don't know when the flag was adopted, but the Coat-of-Arms was adopted in October 1897, then revised in 1996. Source: Günther 1999, pp. 16 - 29

Variant

The ratio is 3:5. It is a blue over yellow over red horizontal bicolour. The coat of arms is in the centre of the flag. The variant has a bull turning his head slightly to the fly.

According to Stefan Schwoon this flag was introduced shortly after German reunion in 1990 by the city council stressing the old relationships to the former state of Mecklenburg. As there had been no entry in the roll of arms of Mecklenburg-Westpomerania, this variant had to be considered as "inofficial" (deadline: 7 April 2004)

Grevesmühlen Coat-of-Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a red shield is a golden (=yellow) mill wheel. The centre of the gear is superimposed by a black bull's head, crowned golden, armed silver and tongued red.
adopted in Oct 1897, revised 1996; it shows a bull's head (symbol of the Obotrite princes) surrounded by a mill-wheel.

Meaning:
Probably the bull's head is symbolizing Mecklenburg, the millwheel might be canting.
