According to source on 1 January 1975 the county free city of Neuss was incorporated into Grevenbroich County. Neuss became seat of the county and the name was changed into Neuss County. In 2003 the county council decided to rename the county once more into Rhein-Kreis Neuss (Rhine-County Neuss) in order to stress the importance of river Rhine for the county. The new name was approved by minister of interior of Northrhine -Westphalia ion 1 July 2003.

Description of flag:
The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a white flag having black horizontal stripes at the top- and bottom edge. In the middle of the white stripe is the coat of arms.
Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per pale. The sinister side is a silver (=white) field divided by a black cross. The dexter side is a golden (= yellow) field showing a black rampant lion, tongued red.
Meaning:
The cross is symbolizing the archbishopric and electorate of Köln, the lion the duchy of Jülich. Before parts of the nowadays territory of the county belonged to Köln, the others to Jülich .
