On 1 January 2008 the municipality of St.Peter-Ording and the City of Garding joined the subcounty. It consists nowadys (2012) of the same territory as former the former County, except the city of Tönning. But both, city and subcounty, are parts of an administrative cooperation (Verwaltungsgemeinschaft / VG). VGs in Schlswig-Holstein have no proper names and no flags. Usually they iare cooperations between a city or bigger municipality and a rural area consisting of small municipalities and having only few inhabitants. The cooperation is regulated by a treaty between both entities.
