Description of flag:
It is a blue over white horizontal bicolour. The coat of arms is in the centre of the flag.

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess into blue over silver (= white). Above is a golden, crowned demi-lion issuant tongued red. The field is scattered by golden (= yellow) billets. Below on the dexter side is a blue rose, barbed and seeded golden (= yellow) accompanied by a black cogwheel on the sinister side.
Meaning:
The demi-lion is a differentiation of the Nassau arms and is representing the Counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken, later Nassau-Ottweiler, local rulers from 1381 until 1792. The rose is representing the city of Ottweiler and the wheel the city of Neunkirchen, the two major cities in the county The rose is known from court seals of Koblenz since 1282. The flag colours are derived from those of Bavaria.

Flag and coat of arms were approved on 22 August 1961. The county overtook the symbols of the former county of Ottweiler (until 1974).
