Description of coat of arms:
The silver (=white) shield is divided by a black cross potent (German: Krucken- or Krückenkreuz). It has a blue inescutcheon with three silver (=white) man traps ordered 2:1.
(We could also say the blue shield has a silver bordure containing a cross potent.)
Meaning:
According sources the cross is symbolizing the former Welheim base of the Teutonic Order, located on the territory of nowadays city. The inescutcheon is symbolizing the local kins of Hackfurth (blue) and Brabeck (silver). Their colours had to be changed due to basic heraldic rules (more details see at Kirchhellen, below in this page)

Description of coat of arms:
The silver (=white) shield is divided by a black cross potent (German: Krucken- or Krückenkreuz). It has a red inescutcheon containg a white naked arm, in the hand is a mallet of the same colour.
Meaning:
According to source the hand with mallet is symbolizing mining and the colours red and silver were those of Prussian province of Westphalia. The former coat of arms was approved on 1 September 1926 by Prussian ministry of state.

Meaning:
According to source the blue fess is symbolizing the local kin of von Hackfurth, the man traps the local kin of von Brabeck.
