Reinbek Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The red shield is divided by a silver (= white) fess wavy. Around the fess are three oak leaves of the same colour ordered trefly.
Meaning:
In 1250 a monastery of Cistercian nuns was built here. Its name later became the name of the nearby village. After its secularization (1528) and destruction (1534) Duke Adolf of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf started the construction of a renaissance palace in 1572. Reinbek gained city rights in 1952. The leaves are taken from the arms of the von Bismarck kin. Reinbek is surrounded by Bismarck's domains in the Sachsenwald. The fess wavy is a canting element, symbolizing Reinbek creek. The colours are those of Holstein and Stormarn as well.
