Description of flag:
The flags ratio is 3:5. It is a red over white horizontal bicolour with the county's coat of arms shifted to the hoist.
Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided by a blue fessy wavy line. The chief shows a red cross in a silver (=white) field. The base shows a red indented chevron (German: Rautensparren) in a silver (=white) field. It is a chevron
built from seven odd lozenges (you need a lot of fantasy to recognize them).
Meaning:
The cross is taken from the coat of arms of the archbishopric of Paderborn. The rhombic chevron is taken from that one of the Lords of Büren, whose dominion became part of the archbishopric in 1660. It was also part of the coat of arms of former Büren county. The wavy line turns out that there exist rich water resources within the county.
Authorized: 22 July 1975 by Regierungspräsident Detmold
