The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a yellow over blue horizontal bicolour. The coat of arms is in the centre of the flag.

Description of coat of arms:
In a blue shield is golden (=yellow) castle with an open (=black) gate.

The flag was first used on 14 March 1996. The coat of arms was granted on 10 April 1858 by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II. The redesigned version, made by /Heinz Kippnick / in 1995, was registered as no.36 in the Roll of Arms of Mecklenburg-Westpomerania.
