Description of flag:
The ratio is 3:5. It is a green over yellow over black horizontal tricolor with ratio 1:2:1. The black stripe is divided by a white, wavy line. Shifted to the hoist there are three green fir trees in the yellow stripe all having yellow roots in the black stripe.

Description of coat of arms:
In a golden (= yellow) field are three green fir trees. The shield has a black base divided by a silver (= white) fess wavy. The golden (= yellow) roots of the firs are superimposing the base.
Meaning:
Halstenbek is called the "cradle of the German forest", which is right, because 75% of the surface is used by forestry. Here 60% of all seedlings for German forests are grown. As softwood is predominating, fir trees had been chosen. The golden roots are symbolizing the economic profit. The fess wavy is symbolizing the suffix "-bek", which means creek.
