Meaning:
The well as the main figure is canting. The name of the city means "living spring" or "quickly flowing fountain". The fountain was located alongside a highway, which had been used for the transport of cattle from Jütland to Hamburg. In the nearby "Uhlenkrog", i.e. the owl's tavern, where the medieval cowboys rested. The leaves are symbolizing two small local lakes. The colours red and white are those of Holstein.
