Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess. Above are silver (=white) antlers ordered horizontally in a green field. Below the shield is divided per pale. The dexter side shows a red heraldic rose in a silver (=white) field, the sinister side is chequered into black and silver (=white).
Meaning:
According to source antlers nad rose are taken from the arms of the lords of Herten, who died out in the 15th century. The chess board is representing the former municipality of Westerholt. The colours green and white had been chosen, because it was understood, that they had been the traditional colours of the city long before.
