The coat of arms was approved on 17 September 1963 and confirmed on 26 September 1972. The chief displays the lozenges of Bavaria as several estates were for centuries possessions of the Dukes of Bavaria. The bend in the lower dexter half is derived from the arms of the Regensburg Abbey, which also held several estates. The cross is representing the Benedictine Abbey of Prüfening, the largest of the many former monasteries in the district.
