*A "Samtgemeinde", (English: "comprehensive municipality") is a combination of several municipalities to an administrative community in Lower Saxony.
Description of banner: The ratio is estimated 15:8. It is a blue and yellow vertical bicolour with the coat of arms shifted to the top.
Source: I spotted this banner on 6 May 2009 in the municipal hall of Himmelpforten.

Description of coat of arms:
In a blue shield with a very thin silver bordure is a golden Gothic vault. In the vault there is standing an abbess,
dressed in a silver robe and holding a golden crozier.
Meaning:
The coat of arms reminds of a monastery, which had been established at this place by nuns of Cistercians (Sacer Ordo Cisterciensis(SOC)) about 750 years ago. They called it porta coeli (=heaven’s gate or German: Himmelspforte).

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess. In a blue field is a silver(=white) rider on a silver(=white) horse, facing the dexter side. The base is silver(=white) with three red flames(=gyrons).
Meaning:
In the year 1764 the village suffered under a heavy firestorm, which left only five houses. A legend tells, that a rider on a white horse came from the direction of Stade. He stopped, looked at the fire, surrounded it once and cried with a mighty voice: "Not further than here!". He turned his horse and rode back without looking at the fire again. Then the fire indeed didn't extend any further. For this reason a special service was held in the local church until 1901.
