Description of banner:
It is a blue and orange vertical bicolour. At its top is the county's coat of arms within a white square. Square and stripes are divided by a barrulet, divided once per fess and five times per pale, consisting of
small alternating black and white rectangles.
Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess. The bigger chief is divided per pale. The dexter chief shows two black pallets in a silver (=white) field. The sinister chief shows a golden (=yellow) rampant lion , red armed
and red tongued, in a blue field surrounded by seven golden (=yellow) small rectangles. The base shows a blue knife and a blue lamp with a red flame in a golden (=yellow) shield. According to terms of German heraldry the rectangles are called "Schindeln" (lit. transl. as "shingles"))
Meaning:
The pallets are taken from the coat of arms of the counts of Wittgenstein, the lion is taken from the coat of arms of the counts of Nassau, the former rulers of the region around the city of Siegen. The knife is symbolizing a speciell local form of agriculture, the lamp is symbolizing mining.
