Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a silver field is a red embattled tower flanked by two embattled torrets of the same colour. All towers are connected by a red wall with a black roof. The central tower is topped by a red heraldic rose seeded golden(=yellow).
Meaning:
According to source the arms are derived from a seal from 13th century. The rose is symbolizing baron Bernhard II. von Lippe and his kin, the barons and counts of Lippe. Bernhard II. founded the city in 1185. Later Lippstadt became a condominion of Lippe and Prussia. In 1850/51 Prussia became the only sovereign of the city.

The coat of arms was approved by Oberprräsident of Prussian province of Westphalia on 10 June 1938. The banner was probably used since the same time.
