Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a silver (=white) shield is a red, rampant lion, crowned, armed and tongued blue, shoring up his left arm upon a silver (=white) shield divided by a black cross. In his right paw he holds a golden (=yellow) flaming sword upon his head.
Meaning:
According to source the lion is symbolizing the principality of Berg. The major part of the county belonged to the Bergian dominions. The cross is symbolizing the archbishopric and electorate of Köln, which ruled over Königswinter and parts of Siebengebirge mountains. The sword is an attribute of St.Michael and symbolizing the abbey of the order of Benedictines, which existed from 1064 to 1803 on the Michaelsberg in Siegburg under direct imperial rule. 1914 in this place again a monastery was erected.
