Blaubeuren Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a golden (= yellow) shield is a man in blue robe with a green wreath around his head. He holds a black antler in every hand.
Meaning:
Blaubeuren gained city rights in 1267, when Rudolf of Tübingen overhanded the town to Count Ulrich of Helfenstein. 1447 the city became part of Württemberg. Emperor Friedrich III granted a deed of arms in 1471, in which arms similar to the current ones are described. The shield was however silver. The shield became golden (= yellow) in 1536. The antlers and the golden (= yellow) colour are alluding to the new rulers, the Grand Dukes of Württemberg. "Blaubeuren" might have been derived from "blue farmer" (German: blauer Bauer).
